When should you book your newborn session?


One of the most commonly asked question that I also had when I was pregnant is, "When should I book my newborn session?" The short answer is when you are confirmed by doctor that you are pregnant. It may seem like your due date is far away but the fact is before you know it the date will be fast approaching. Most of newborn photographers are booked at least 3-4 months in advanced. So don't wait too long till the trimester or after birth.

Some of the first time parents think that they don't know when the baby will arrive, so they wait until baby is born.


However here is why that is not the best thought.

Once the baby is born the first few weeks just flew away with having a new and very small human in the house, mom's recovery, sleep deprived, feeding baby day and night etc... The world just gets 10x busier in first few weeks especially for the first time parents. So all these new changes cause parents to forget about their plan to look for the newborn photographer or just say 'Forget about it. Let's just take some cute photos with our phones.' At least, this is exactly what I thought when I was first pregnant. I didn't get to have my first child's newborn photos done and I've been regretting for so long. (back then I wasn't a photographer... yeop that's right...)


The first few weeks of a newborn babies are so special. Eyes, lips, little toes, birth mark etc. all these details are very precious and you don't want to forget about them years and years after. Newborn babies features don't last so long and it goes away fairly quickly. They just start to grow and grow even before you notice it. Photographs help you remember what your baby looked like and it makes more special when you are in the picture too.


It will be harder for first-time parents to know when the time is right. I would suggest contacting a photographer early as possible. Ask your families and friends who had children and look for recommendations and what their experiences were like.


Because you cannot go back in time, while you can ask a photographer to come back later. Plan ahead and don't regret!
